LECCIONES QUE HEMOS DE APRENDER DE LA EXPERIENCIA COMUNISTA

Introducción

Mr. Douglas Hyde, nació en el protestantismo, y llegó a pensar en marchar como misionero a la India. Pero, atraído por los propósitos de tipo social del partido comunista, ingresó en él a los diecisiete años. Propagandista ardiente y experimentado, fue nombrado, en 1940, miembro del Secretariado Central de Londres y redactor del periódico comunista inglés, «The Daily Worker».

En mayo de 1948, el temor a un proceso de difamación por parte de un grupo de escritores católicos, le indujo a estudiar la doctrina de la Iglesia y se convirtió al catolicismo. Entre otros libros es autor de «Respuesta al Comunismo».

En el mes de abril de 1960 pronunció en Roma una serie de conferencias en diversas instituciones docentes. Este folleto reproduce una de ellas, tomada en cinta magnetofónica para la revista internacional «Cristo al Mundo», que la publicó en el nº 3 del año 1960 de su edición española.

El texto recogido fue revisado por el propio autor, que dice a este propósito: «Una cuidadosa revisión de los conceptos e ideas vertidos en la conferencia, hubiera supuesto un ímprobo trabajo. He hecho cuanto ha sido posible en el escaso tiempo de que he dispuesto, ya que dentro de un par de días salgo de viaje para Asia. Han de tener en cuenta, por otra parte, que el tono de una conferencia improvisada ha de diferenciarse forzosamente del de un artículo esmeradamente preparado. Como escritor, me hago cargo de ello. Pero no cabe duda, sin embargo, de que la espontaneidad de mi conferencia suplirá con creces lo que se encontraría en un artículo acabado».
